How to make „guláš“

Julia wanted to know how to prepare „guláš“ so I’ve tried to translate the recipe of one of the most common types of  „guláš“ cooked in our country. I hope she will be pleased and try her own and send us a photo :-)! The recipe is from Peter’s mum. We will need:

  • about 1 kilo of potatoes
  • 3 onions
  • 5 cloves of garlic
  • some vegetables from a can – we prefare the Bonduelle Mexicana can with beans and corn in the chilli sauce but you can try also something else 🙂
  • one cream for cooking in the beaker
  • 2 cubes of bouillon
  • 3 big spoons of flour
  • 3 big spoons of spice „red pepper“
  • marjoram
  • „kabanos“ which is a special kind of sausage but you can replace it by any sausage you will have 🙂
  • oil
  • salt
  • water

And now we can start! First of all we clean and peel the potatoes. Then we cut the potatoes on smaller pieces and put them into a stockpot (a pot for a soup) which should be big enough. The potatoes should fill approximately one fifth of the pot. Then we add the peeled and sliced onions and the pot fill with water into the half (maybe a little bit more). We shouldn’t forget to add a little bit of salt. Now we put the pot on the cooker. The cooking should take about half of hour and it’s good to blend the mixture regularly. When the water starts to boil we can add two cubes of bouillon (In our country we have special one for preparing of „guláš“ but I think it’s not a neccesity.) and blend it again. Now we can add garlic sliced on small pieces and shredded sausage. In the meantime we can fire the pan with oil and admix the flour and red pepper very slowly. We originate some „mash“ which we blend into the mixture in the big spot as soon as the potatoes are floppy enough. At the end we add the vegetables from the can, cream and little bit of marjoram spice. And now we have to taste it, of course :-)! We should add more spices, salt or flour in the case that our „guláš“ is too thin. If everything’s okay we can serve our delicious dish with fresh bread or rolls :-)…

Yummi!
Yummi!

There are many many kinds of  „guláš“ and maybe you can create your own taiwanese recipe with different sausage and different vegetable :-)…
